The projects christened ‘Light Up’ with total worth of $476.6 million is to be financed 100 percent by the selected companies.
Earl Grey Nigeria Ltd, situated in Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state is to generate 8MW from natural gas; Gateway Solar Power Int’l Nig Ltd. will generate 125MW in Agbara area; Naanovo Energy Nig Ltd is to generate 5MW in Abeokuta via waste energy and Nikenando Energy Ltd generating 5-20MW in Oke-Mosan area of the state capital.
Others are Renaissance Impex Energy to power model schools in Ikenne, Ago-Iwoye and Ewekoro via 8MW solar; Sholep Energy to light the newly established Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia with 5MW solar; Solonic Energy to generate 100MW through solar while Tido Tech International to power the federal airport in Wasimi with 5MW solar.
Two of the companies would be generating directly to the National grid from 100MW-124MW.
Speaking at the official signing of the MoU at the Oke-Mosan governor’s office, the Consultant on Energy to the Governor, Akinsanya Fagbemi, said the idea of the projects is to end the agony of epileptic power supply in the state.
While insisting that power generation is not a rocket science, Fagbemi said the project would address every industrial area in the state adding that other residents in the areas will also benefit from the project.
On the waste to energy, the Consultant said the government would begin to buy all waste around the state for the generation of the power, saying the project will show the dexterity of the government.
The Group Managing Director of Naanovo Energy Ltd, Ben Alabi, who hinted that the project has started since July 2014 explained that research has shown that 250 tonnes of waste needed for the project is available in the state.
While assuring that the project would be delivered between 12-18 months, Alabi revealed that the project would generate no fewer than 1,000 job opportunities during the construction and 400 after the construction.
He insisted that such project would be first of its kind in the whole of Africa.
Another provider, Engr. Tonny Ojurabesa, whose the Chairman of Gateway Solar Power Limited assured that the project would be delivered within record time.
According to him, the project will offset green house emission from 33,583 passenger vehicles for one year; offset 18 million gallons of gasoline consumption and offset diesel generators with electrical power for 21, 942 homes for one year.
While speaking on behalf of the government, the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa said the state government has provided two acre of land to each of the IPP for the smooth take off of the project.
Adeoluwa said priority will be areas of need including hospitals, educational institutions adding that the formal switch will be within the next 3 months.
While assuring the providers of government commitment, Adeoluwa urged the investors to show interest in Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Igbo and Ota area of the state.
